Before you have a dumpster placed on or near your property, be sure to do your research about the permits required regarding dumpster rentals.
In Chicago, the city requires a $50, three-day dumpster permit. If you’re going to take on a more extensive project that requires you to have your dumpster for a longer period, you can acquire a 30-day dumpster permit for $100. These fees apply to dumpsters measuring 30 cubic yards or less in Chicago. However, for the Central Business District of Chicago, rates increase, so the fee for the three-day permit is $100 and the fee for the 30-day permit is $200. As a reminder, the Central Business District, also referred to as “the loop,” is bordered by Halstead on the west, W. Division Street and W. Chicago Ave. on the north, Roosevelt Road on the south and the lake to the east.
There is also a permit application fee, which changes annually, so you’ll need to prepare for that added expense. To learn more about permits and all the fees associated with them, check out the dumpster permits article.
If you want to avoid the permitting fees, have the dumpster placed on your actual property rather than on public property (streetside). For example, most homeowners will have the dumpster placed on their private driveway, which is an area where a permit is not required. Keep in mind that the City of Chicago does not allow dumpsters to be placed in yards, which is an option for many suburban communities surrounding Chicago. If you have a private residence in Chicago but do not have a private drive, arrange in advance to have the dumpster, with a permit, placed curbside as close to your home as possible.
At A City Dumpsters, we know customers don’t appreciate fine print that results in surprise charges, so we offer complete visibility into our fees. For example, when we say there are no extra charges for delivery and pickup, we mean it. The price you are quoted at the end of your checkout process is what you will pay – no strings attached.
